Visitor Welcome and Facility Support Team Member

12-month fixed-term contract (1 April 2026 – 31 March 2027)

The Council intends to review its staffing structure during this period. Subject to that review and organisational requirements, there may be the opportunity for the post to become permanent.

 Based at Pannett Art Gallery, Pannett Park, Whitby, YO21 1RE.

  • 22.2 hours per week (over 3 days, with some flexibility).
  • £12.65 per hour (SCP2).

 

Whitby Town Council is seeking a friendly, proactive, and reliable Visitor Welcome & Facility Support Team Member to join its small front-of-house team supporting both the Town Council and Pannett Art Gallery.

About the role

This varied, customer-facing role plays a key part in delivering a welcoming, professional experience for visitors while supporting the day-to-day operation of the Gallery and Town Council.

Duties include:

  • Providing a warm, professional welcome to visitors and residents.
  • Front-of-house and reception services.
  • Retail sales, cash handling, and stock control.
  • Building opening/closing, basic caretaking, and cleaning.
  • Supporting exhibitions, events, and meetings.
  • Administrative support including telephone enquiries and website updates.
  • Assisting with collections care and exhibition changeovers.
  • Maintaining high standards of presentation, safety and security.

You’ll work closely with colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the building, contributing to exhibitions, events, and community activity throughout the year.

Members of Whitby Art Society have been challenged to paint one picture or create one work of art using the grey shades of the colourful art palette. These will be displayed alongside their second artwork which will be of their own choice.

A new display commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE and VJ Day. This exhibition reflects on the hardships of War and celebrates the transition to peace.

The stories of local people, treasured objects and family histories have been gathered and displayed alongside artwork from the collection at Pannett Art Gallery. This show explores memories of VE and VJ Day through themes of celebrations, food, rationing, and transitioning from war to peace.

Whitby Museum relaunch their café (and visitors to Pannett Art Gallery are welcome to use the café too).

Flock Kitchen & Coffee Launches soon.

Flock Kitchen & Coffee will be opening at Whitby Museum for February half-term. With a bold new look and a fresh menu, Flock promises to be the perfect destination for locals and visitors alike to enjoy delicious food and beverages in a unique setting.

The new team is led by Catherine Cook, who knows a thing or two about providing tasty treats and lunch dishes that you drool over. Catherine shared her enthusiasm: “I’m very excited to bring a new menu to the café this year alongside our fantastic coffees. We really hope it is loved by locals and museum visitors. I’m very grateful to have the best team with me and we’d love you to come in and say hello!”

The menu features their own house roast coffee, pastries, cakes & bakes, impressively filled sandwiches, incredible scones, and their new offering, the ‘Jacket Stack.’ Plus, the Flock Daily menu for freshly made soup, quiche, salads and houmous.

From February to November, Flock Kitchen & Coffee will be open Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, last orders at 3:30 PM. Whether you’re exploring the gallery or museum, strolling through Pannett Park, or simply seeking a cozy spot to relax, it will be worth a visit.
