22 June – 30 July       ‘Watch This Space’ – An eclectic mix of artwork by members of Whitby Art Society

An amazing exhibition of art work by local artists is now on display in our Gallery.

Last year all temporary exhibitions had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. So the Art Society committee set their members the challenge to create work on the theme of  “Watch This Space”, signifying that ‘they will be back soon’.

Over the last 15 months members have created a fabulous range of paintings, collage, embroidery, print, drawings, glass, enamel, and sculpture, in a diverse range of styles and subject matter.

All Art Society members were invited to submit up to two artworks, from the work they have created in the last long year and three lockdowns, resulting in an eclectic display of interesting and unusual Art. From realistic representations to abstract designs, and from landscapes and nature to fantasy, there is plenty to enjoy.  Only a visit to the gallery can do justice to the range and quality of art works on display.

Whitby Art Society has been in existence for more than 40 years and currently has about 90 members.  They are a friendly group and new members are always welcome. Although they haven’t been able to meet in person during the pandemic, they have supported each other via the internet and “Watch This Space” is a celebration of this.

The exhibition is at the Pannett Art Gallery in the beautiful Pannett Park until 30th July 2021.  The gallery is open 10.30am – 4.30pm Tuesday – Friday. Last admission is half an hour before closing.

The safety of our visitors is tremendously important to us and therefore social Distancing measures are in place, with hand sanitiser available at the entrance and in the gallery.  Visitors must wear a mask and you will need to register your details for Track and Trace.

Admission to the gallery is Free.

Opening times may be subject to change, please check before visiting.
